Paws to R.E.A.D.
Tuesday, April 23rd
Zachary Lane Elementary
Last year's event was such a success that we're doing it again!
This is a special R.E.A.D. event for the students and parents of Zachary Lane Elementary. This event is in conjunction with national World Book Night.
Reading with dogs is fun AND helps kids improve their reading skills!
It's a great way for students to practice their reading and share a book with an eager listener while being supported by a reading mentor. The fun of a R.E.A.D. session is being tied in with the goal of giving parents an opportunity to read a book and set the example of recreational reading for their children.
Parents can contact Nancy to sign up for a 15 minute session.
Good news, we now have Honey, the R.E.A.D. Rabbit, joining us, too!
This is the current schedule.

Reading Education Assistance Dogs is a national program that began in 1999. It started in Minnesota in the Golden Valley branch of the Hennepin County Library in 2005. Sassy -- the dog at the top of this page -- was the first R.E.A.D. dog in Minnesota! Sassy's handler, Nancy Brooks, enjoys sharing the love of R.E.A.D.ing with young readers.
We currently have four R.E.A.D. teams reading with students each week at Zachary Lane Elementary.
