R.E.A.D. Workshop
It would be great to have you join us in this exciting and heartwarming program, Reading Education Assistance Dogs! While the program name refers to dogs, most registered therapy animals can participate and help improve children's reading skills.
You can learn more about the Reading Education Assistance Dogs program by participating in a R.E.A.D. workshop. All workshops are conducted in small groups by Nancy Brooks, a licensed R.E.A.D. instructor.
The workshop participants do not need to be registered as a therapy team at the time of the R.E.A.D. training, but they will need to be registered before they begin volunteering and when they apply for R.E.A.D. membership. This workshop is also appropriate for reading specialists that are looking to establish a reading program and want to understand more about how the program works
.
What you will learn
In the workshop you will learn how to:
- Effectively coduct a reading session
- Successfully mentor young readers
- Set up a program in schools, libraries, and other settings
- Help convince decision makers in your community that R.E.A.D. works
- Help make reading fun with different tools and techniques
- Become a R.E.A.D. member
This
is a fast paced, information packed class for humans only. The emphasis
is on what you need to know for a successful reading program; it is not
a hands-on class of teaching your animal specific skills.
Logistics
The cost for the workshop, which includes the training manual, is $79. Mention R.E.A.D. Dogs MN and any workshops held in the Twin Cities are $69.
